Panda-monium

A panda with its back against the glass barrier feeding at the Smithsonian National Zoo. Many of the animals were indoors because of the whether in DC–it is cooler than their natural climate, although the giant panda do enjoy snow days. This is the male, Tian Tian. Two Americas

Washington is not surprisingly a political place. The holiday season had its share of protests. The first is a voting rights demonstration outside the White House, the second was a white supremacist rally on the National Mall, ending at the Capitol Building. The police response was very different for each. Click on the images for a larger view.

A New Pursuit

Naomi and I have taken up a new hobby—target archery. We were looking for some exercise during the pandemic where we could get out of the house. We shoot at a public range in Needwood Park, which is in Rock Creek Park in Maryland. We particularly enjoy shooting in the early mornings when the sun rises.

What we also found is that archery is very meditative. It is an interesting combination of a physical and mental sport. The archer needs both the correct posture and process, known as form, and focus, both to concentrate on the process and to eliminate distractions. Shooting surrounded by woods is an added blessing.
