Cherry Blossoms, Part 1

We went downtown to see the blossoming cherry trees around the tidal basin in Washington last night. The crowds were so large, we decided to have dinner on the steps of the Bureau of Printing and Engraving and watch the trees from a distance. The park service has said it might close off the tidal basin area to reduce the risk of spreading COVID if the crowds become too large, which seems very likely. While trying to avoid people on the way home, we took this image of the Washington Memorial on the National Mall. These trees were very different ten days earlier. Small Mysteries

Cities are infinitely fascinating. Something simple can become enigmatic on closer inspection. An exit sign pointing to the the entrance in the neighboring building is a bit strange. The artwork on the drain pipe is unusual, but the fact the drain pipe originates from the window on the second floor and not from, for example, a gutter on a roof, creates a bit of a mystery.
